Associate Data Engineer (UMiami Only)

Location: Miami, United States; candidates must be authorized to work in the United States and able to be based in Miami.

Base salary: $85,000–$115,000 per year, plus equity incentive and benefits.

What you will do

• Build and maintain Databricks data pipelines using SparkSQL and PySpark to ingest, transform, and validate platform, payer, provider, claims, and third-party data.
• Work across ingestion, transformation, modeling, dashboards, and downstream operational workflows, increasing independence over time.
• Build and maintain automated inbound and outbound file exchanges for eligibility, claims status, and reporting.
• Use AI coding agents as part of the engineering workflow and take full responsibility for reviewing and explaining their output.
• Write pipeline tests and validation checks, participate in design and code reviews, and contribute constructive feedback.
• Apply data governance, access controls, and audit logging when handling protected health information.

Requirements

• Graduation between December 2026 and June 2027 with a B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science, Data Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• Strong SQL skills and working knowledge of Python for data processing.
• Exposure to Databricks, Spark, or a similar distributed data processing tool through coursework, an internship, or a personal project.
• Basic understanding of how data moves from source systems into a warehouse or lakehouse and into reports.
• Experience using AI coding tools, with the ability to identify misleading output and verify generated code.
• Authorization to work in the United States and ability to be based in Miami.

Nice to have

• Internship or co-op experience shipping a data pipeline or report to production.
• Experience with Looker, Tableau, Power BI, AWS, PostgreSQL, or MongoDB.
• Projects involving LLM or agent APIs, tools, harnesses, evaluations, or agents.
• Curiosity about healthcare data standards such as HL7, FHIR, and DICOM, or claims and eligibility data.
• Coursework or projects involving statistics, data modeling, or data warehousing.
