Scientist, Battery Materials (Li-ion / Na-ion)

Location: On-site in New York City, United States. Relocation support is available for the right candidate.

Salary: $143,000–$204,000 per year.

What you will do

• Design synthesis routes for battery-relevant cathodes, anodes, electrolytes, and related compounds across Li-ion and Na-ion chemistries.
• Define composition spaces, dopants, precursor routes, and electrolyte formulations for automated exploration.
• Characterize materials using XRD, SEM, electrochemical cycling, and related techniques.
• Translate structural and electrochemical results into next-round synthesis and experiment decisions.
• Work with automation and ML specialists to encode battery expertise into experiment design and decision loops.
• Interpret ambiguous or conflicting data and contribute to the battery materials science roadmap.

Requirements

• PhD in materials science, chemistry, chemical engineering, or a related field.
• Research focus on Li-ion or Na-ion materials, including synthesis, characterization, or both.
• Hands-on experience synthesizing inorganic materials and using XRD, electron microscopy, and electrochemical testing.
• Ability to work in an iterative environment with experiment cycles measured in days rather than months.
• Interest in automation and AI as tools that extend scientific judgment.
• Recent graduates and researchers with 0–5 years of post-PhD experience are encouraged to apply.

• Industry experience in battery materials or a related field.
