Location: On-site in Brooklyn, NY, at the Brooklyn Navy Yard headquarters. Relocation support is available for the right candidate.

Salary: $143,000–$204,000 per year.

What you will do

• Design and execute synthesis routes for oxide and ceramic materials across varied compositions and applications.
• Characterize materials using XRD, SEM, electron microscopy, and related techniques.
• Use structural and compositional data to guide subsequent synthesis rounds.
• Work across multiple concurrent projects and material systems as a generalist.
• Partner with automation and ML teams to translate materials expertise into experiment design.
• Contribute to the science roadmap as the materials portfolio expands.

Requirements

• PhD in materials science, ceramics engineering, chemistry, or a related field, with research experience in oxide or ceramic materials.
• Hands-on experience synthesizing and characterizing oxide or ceramic materials using XRD, electron microscopy, and related tools.
• Ability to move across projects and material systems rather than specializing in one narrow chemistry.
• Comfort working in a fast-moving environment with experiment cycles measured in days.
• Interest in automation and AI as tools that extend scientific judgment.
• Ability to work in person in Brooklyn, NY.

Nice to have

• Recent graduation or a few years of experience after completing a PhD.
• Academic or industry research background.
