Distinguished Software Engineer (Video Streaming)

Location: Boston, MA, with a hybrid schedule requiring two core office days per week

Annual base pay: $193,900–$258,500

What you will do

• Build, maintain, and own cloud-based backend systems for real-time camera video streaming and recording.
• Design and improve reliable, scalable video services and storage systems.
• Implement solutions through hands-on development, code reviews, and technical mentoring.
• Optimize performance, fix bugs, add features, improve system usability, and automate operational work.
• Document systems and serve as an on-call first responder for owned software.

Requirements

• 10+ years of industry experience, including end-to-end ownership of a production backend architecture.
• 4+ years designing, building, or operating real-time or low-latency video streaming services.
• Experience architecting cloud video storage, lifecycle policies, retention strategies, metadata systems, and indexing at scale.
• Deep expertise in HLS/DASH, fragmented MP4, H.264, and AAC; familiarity with adaptive bitrate packaging, codecs, and transport protocols.
• Experience with WebRTC, GStreamer, ffmpeg, or libav, plus extensive experience with AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Proficiency in a major programming language and demonstrated ability to mentor engineers and drive technical decisions.

Nice to have

• Experience with IoT or smart home video streaming applications.
• Familiarity with Agile Scrum.
