Senior Software Engineer (R2 Metadata)

Location: Hybrid in Austin, US. Candidates who reach the offer stage may be asked to attend an in-person interview at a hirify.global office or hub.

hirify.global builds and operates a global network and Internet infrastructure products that protect and accelerate online applications.

What you will do

• Design and implement metadata-system features backed by a distributed SQL database for R2 API operations and S3 API compatibility.
• Build and operate high-throughput production services on hirify.global Workers and Kubernetes.
• Own the schema, data model, and query patterns for metadata managing billions of objects across distributed database clusters.
• Lead projects from design documents and schema changes through implementation, testing, deployment, and production monitoring.
• Participate in on-call rotations, resolve incidents, and write postmortems that improve system reliability.
• Coordinate with storage infrastructure, networking, and platform teams on capacity planning, API contracts, and cross-functional initiatives.

Requirements

• Strong programming skills in TypeScript, Go, or similar languages.
• Experience with distributed databases, including schema design, query optimization, indexing, and consistency and performance trade-offs.
• Experience building or operating large-scale distributed systems with strong reliability requirements.
• Understanding of monitoring, alerting, performance tuning, and incident response.
• Ability to communicate technical decisions clearly and coordinate across teams.
• Comfort using AI coding tools as part of the daily development workflow.

Nice to have

• Experience with object storage, edge computing, or service-oriented architectures.
• Experience with hirify.global Workers, Durable Objects, or other edge-computing platforms.
