Senior/Staff Scientist (Electrochemical Biosensors)

What you will do

• Lead the design, development, optimization, and characterization of enzymatic electrochemical sensors and assay chemistries.
• Develop strip-based amperometric sensor platforms, including electrode design, reagent formulation, enzyme immobilization, and manufacturing processes.
• Evaluate sensitivity, specificity, linearity, accuracy, interference rejection, stability, and shelf life.
• Design experiments, analyze data, and conduct root-cause investigations for complex technical challenges.
• Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, quality, regulatory, and product management teams to transition technologies from concept to commercialization.
• Lead verification, validation, and product performance qualification studies while mentoring junior scientists and supporting technical reviews.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in chemistry, biochemistry, electrochemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, biomedical engineering, or a related discipline.
• At least 5 years of industrial experience developing enzymatic electrochemical sensors, biosensors, or diagnostic technologies.
• Hands-on expertise in enzyme selection, immobilization strategies, mediator chemistry, assay optimization, and disposable electrochemical test strips.
• Strong understanding of chronoamperometry, cyclic voltammetry, impedance measurements, sensor characterization, and analytical performance evaluation.
• Ability to independently lead scientific projects from concept through product development, with strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work onsite in Waltham, Massachusetts, including standing, walking, lifting up to 25–50 pounds, and using required PPE.

Nice to have

• Experience with glucose, ketone, lactate, creatinine, or other enzymatic biosensor products.
• Knowledge of screen printing, electrode fabrication, and sensor strip manufacturing.
• Experience with point-of-care diagnostics, wearable biosensors, or continuous monitoring technologies.
• Familiarity with Design Controls, Risk Management, and regulated product development.
• Patents, peer-reviewed publications, successful product launches, or experience leading cross-functional technical teams.
