Staff Scientist (Molecular Diagnostics)

Location: Brisbane, California, United States

Salary: $139,000–$160,000 USD annually, plus potential bonuses, incentives, and restricted stock units.

What you will do

• Provide technical leadership for cross-functional R&D programs and translate product needs into technical requirements and performance criteria.
• Lead optimization, troubleshooting, and sustaining improvements for complex molecular diagnostic assays.
• Drive new product development, experimental design, analytical validation, and technology transfer.
• Define and execute assay performance validation plans in accordance with CLSI guidelines.
• Manage and mentor junior scientific personnel while ensuring high-quality data generation, analysis, and reporting.
• Partner with Bioinformatics, Clinical, Regulatory, and Operations functions.

Requirements

• PhD in Molecular Biology, Immunology, Genomics, or a related field, with 8+ years of molecular diagnostic assay development experience.
• Hands-on expertise in gene expression profiling, nucleic acid extraction, low-input nucleic acid assays, NGS workflows, PCR, and qPCR.
• Experience developing, optimizing, and validating assays in regulated environments, including CLIA, CAP, FDA, or ISO settings.
• Proven ability to lead projects, solve complex technical problems, and collaborate across functions.
• Experience leading small teams, setting priorities, guiding experimental design, and mentoring team members.
• Excellent communication, data analysis, and documentation skills.
