Legal Counsel (Fintech)

Location: Hybrid role requiring relocation to the Luxembourg office; three days per week in the office with the option to request additional remote time. The posting header lists Barcelona, Spain.

What you will do

• Provide strategic legal guidance on payments, e-money, consumer credit, contracts, products, and regulatory matters.
• Collaborate with product, business, and technical teams to design and launch payment and consumer credit products, including BNPL.
• Identify legal and regulatory risks and propose mitigation strategies aligned with the organisation’s risk appetite.
• Advise on PSD2, AML/KYC, e-money regulations, and CCD2 compliance requirements.
• Act as a trusted advisor to senior leadership and promote legal awareness across the organisation.

Requirements

• Qualified lawyer with at least five years of post-qualification experience; eight to ten years of legal experience is preferred.
• Deep knowledge of financial and consumer credit regulations, including PSD2, AML/KYC, EMRs, and CCD2.
• Demonstrable experience in fintech and payments, ideally across private practice and in-house environments.
• Strong analytical skills, judgment, and risk-based decision-making ability.
• Understanding of basic technology and engineering processes in fintech, payments, and consumer lending.
• Fluent written and spoken English is essential.
