Senior Backend Engineer (AI)

Location: Remote in Spain, ideally based in Madrid or able to commute to Madrid several times per month.

hirify.global is a sports digitalization product company operating a racket sports app for booking courts, finding players, and joining a sports community.

What you will do

• Develop and maintain APIs and backend services supporting frontend communication and third-party integrations.
• Own a product domain end-to-end, from technical design and decision-making through delivery and production health.
• Collaborate with product managers, designers, and frontend/mobile engineers to balance technical quality with business impact.
• Improve backend performance, responsiveness, code quality, and system reliability through profiling, reviews, and engineering standards.
• Use AI tools and agentic coding pipelines to accelerate software delivery.

Requirements

• Location: Spain remote, ideally Madrid-based or able to commute to Madrid several times per month.
• Proven backend engineering experience and strong knowledge of web protocols, system architecture, database design, and web server optimization.
• Experience designing, developing, and maintaining APIs.
• Preferred technical experience with Spring Boot 3 or 4, Java 17 or 21, MongoDB, MySQL/Aurora, and Kubernetes.
• Strong ownership, product judgment, analytical problem-solving, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
• Excellent spoken and written English is required. A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience is expected.

Nice to have

• Experience in product-led startups or scale-ups.
• Production experience building software with LLMs and running agentic coding pipelines.
• Experience with remote, partially remote, and multicultural teams.
