Staff Software Engineer (Fullstack/Backend)

Location: Hybrid, two days per week in the Seattle, WA office. Collaboration includes shared SpreeHours Monday–Thursday, 5–7pm PT.

Salary: $230,000–$270,000 base annually, plus equity.

What you will do

• Lead end-to-end development of user-facing features across web and backend systems.
• Design and improve backend architecture, performance, accessibility, infrastructure, and testing strategies.
• Translate customer needs into scalable solutions with product managers and designers.
• Drive technical decisions and execution for complex, cross-functional initiatives.
• Shape engineering standards, architecture, and tooling while balancing delivery speed and quality.
• Mentor engineers and contribute to technical excellence and engineering culture.

Requirements

• 8+ years of professional software development experience, including leadership on high-impact projects.
• Experience shipping production features end-to-end across frontend UI, APIs, and backend services.
• Deep expertise in modern backend technologies, including Java or Kotlin with Spring Boot, Node.js, GraphQL or REST APIs, MongoDB, PostgreSQL, and cloud platforms.
• Full-stack fluency with React, TypeScript, and JavaScript.
• Ability to drive technical direction and architecture across multiple teams.
• Strong product sense, user empathy, and experience mentoring engineers in fast-paced environments.

Nice to have

• Experience with large-scale infrastructure and consumer-scale web applications.
• Familiarity with experimentation, analytics, and product iteration cycles.
• Exposure to CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, and production readiness practices.
