Lead Manufacturing Engineer, Thermal Control Systems

Location: Long Beach, California, United States; full-time onsite position.

Salary: $120,000–$194,000 USD annually in California.

What you will do

• Lead the thermal control systems manufacturing engineering team, set priorities, assign ownership, establish team rhythms, and mentor engineers.
• Own manufacturing development, production readiness, build execution, scheduling, and sequencing for pumps, fluid loops, coldplates, heaters, tubing, and related hardware.
• Partner with design engineering on design for manufacturing and assembly from early design trades through flight hardware.
• Develop and qualify special processes including welding, brazing, tube bending, cleaning, passivation, leak testing, proof testing, and pressure testing.
• Set standards for work instructions, inspection plans, and nonconformance disposition while driving root-cause investigations and corrective actions.
• Coordinate with technicians, quality, supply chain, test, integration, manufacturing and production teams, and suppliers to deliver integrated hardware.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or science.
• 5+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering, production engineering, or hardware development for fluid, thermal, environmental control, or life support systems.
• 3+ years of hands-on experience supporting hardware fabrication, assembly, integration, or testing.
• Experience developing manufacturing processes, work instructions, build plans, or production documentation for complex hardware.
• Experience mentoring engineers or leading a workstream, build, or small team.
• Access to the role’s information and items requires U.S. person status or eligibility for deemed export licensing under U.S. export controls.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in engineering and experience as a technical, project, or informal team lead.
• Experience with aerospace, spacecraft, propulsion, ECLSS, thermal, fluid, or other high-reliability hardware.
• Knowledge of rotating machinery, pumps, valves, heat exchangers, coldplates, pressure vessels, fans, separators, seals, insulation, or flexible ducting.
• Experience with GD&T, tolerance stack-up analysis, inspection planning, FEMAP, ANSYS, structural analysis, failure analysis, and design of experiments.
• Experience troubleshooting builds directly with technicians on the shop floor.
