Location: On-site in Kearny, New Jersey, United States

Salary: $115,000–$140,000 per year

Develops stellarator-based fusion energy systems using computer-controlled arrays of planar coils and high-temperature superconducting magnets.

What you will do

  • Develop and standardize manufacturing documentation, assembly procedures, work instructions, and quality inspection criteria for HTS magnets.
  • Own the design, procurement, build, and commissioning of custom tooling, fixtures, and automated assembly equipment.
  • Partner with Magnet Engineering on design for manufacturability, process FMEAs, and iterative improvements from prototype through production.
  • Manage manufacturing BOMs, routings, and inventory workflows in PLM and MRP systems.
  • Define technical specifications, evaluate suppliers, and procure precision hardware and capital equipment.
  • Establish technician roles and training programs while mentoring engineers and technical staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Aerospace, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, with 7+ years of hands-on manufacturing engineering experience.
  • Experience building complex electromechanical assemblies and introducing first-of-a-kind hardware processes into production.
  • Experience with high-precision soldering, brazing, electron beam welding, or TIG welding.
  • Experience scaling low-volume development projects into continuous production using PLM, MRP, and ERP platforms.
  • Expertise in engineering drawings and GD&T according to ASME Y14.5.
  • Ability to occasionally lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds.

Nice to have

  • Experience in magnetic confinement fusion, aerospace, medical devices, defense, or other high-reliability advanced manufacturing sectors.
  • Strong analytical, leadership, and communication skills.
