TL;DR
PCBA Technician (Aerospace): Building, reworking, repairing, and inspecting spacecraft avionics and flight-hardware PCBAs with an accent on fine-pitch SMT assembly, board-level modifications, and high-reliability workmanship. Focus on interpreting schematics and engineering changes, applying underfill and conformal-coating processes, and maintaining ESD, FOD, and cleanroom compliance.

Location: Redondo Beach, United States; onsite

Salary: $25.00–$55.00 per hour

What you will do

  • Assemble, rework, modify, and repair spacecraft avionics and flight-hardware PCBAs.
  • Perform fine-pitch SMT and through-hole soldering, component replacements, wire modifications, jumpers, and board-level repairs.
  • Read schematics, PCB layer stacks, BOMs, ECOs, and assembly drawings to execute engineering instructions accurately.
  • Conduct visual inspections and basic electrical checks using microscopes, multimeters, oscilloscopes, soldering stations, and reflow tools.
  • Apply underfill, conformal coating, staking, and potting materials according to spacecraft environmental requirements.
  • Collaborate with electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, manufacturing, and test teams to resolve issues and improve technical processes.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of hands-on experience in PCBA assembly, rework, or electronics technician roles.
  • Proficiency with SMT and through-hole soldering, including fine-pitch packages.
  • Ability to interpret electrical schematics, assembly drawings, PCB documentation, work orders, and ECO modifications.
  • Experience with component replacements, wire modifications, jumpers, board-level repairs, underfilling, conformal coating, staking, or potting.
  • Familiarity with IPC-A-610 or IPC-7711/7721 workmanship standards; certification is an advantage.
  • Applicants must be U.S. Persons or eligible to obtain an export license under applicable U.S. export regulations, including ITAR and EAR.

Nice to have

  • Experience with aerospace, spaceflight, defense, or other high-reliability electronic systems.
  • Experience supporting prototype builds, first-article assemblies, or rapid-turn engineering modifications.
  • Working knowledge of cable and harness fabrication.
  • IPC-A-610 or IPC-7711/7721 certification or equivalent industry-recognized training.
