Gas Storage Engineer - NGPL (Natural Gas Storage)

Location: Hybrid in downtown Houston, Texas, United States; work from home Thursday and Friday and in-office Monday through Wednesday. Up to 10% travel and occasional after-hours support may be required.

What you will do

• Plan and execute operating and maintenance activities for assigned underground gas storage assets in line with company procedures and API 1170/1171 standards.
• Collaborate with field engineering, operations, commercial, gas control, corrosion, regulatory, and other stakeholders to meet deliverability, injectivity, and reliability targets.
• Identify, evaluate, document, and mitigate well integrity threats.
• Perform risk assessments, threat evaluations, risk rankings, and long-term integrity planning.
• Provide technical support for well operations, reservoir performance, regulatory interactions, and compliance with PHMSA and state agencies.
• Maintain and improve the Gas Storage Database, Well Risk Matrix, logging schedules, and well files.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Geological Sciences.
• At least 5 years of experience in underground natural gas storage or the regulated gas industry, including depleted reservoirs.
• Strong knowledge of reservoir engineering principles, including material balance, performance monitoring, forecasting, and performance analysis.
• Working knowledge of wellbore and wellhead design, downhole operations, and well logging techniques and interpretation.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and programs within budget, meet deadlines, and collaborate with regulators and external stakeholders.
• Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record and willingness to comply with PHMSA drug testing requirements.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of underground natural gas storage standards, practices, and procedures.
• Familiarity with API RP 1171 and well integrity risks in depleted reservoirs.
• Knowledge of failure pressure and safe operating pressure calculations for well components.
• Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office and data management tools.
