Senior Property Homeowners Underwriter (Hippo Plus)

Location: Hybrid/flexible in Austin, Dallas, or San Jose, Texas/California, or Morristown, New Jersey, United States

Base pay: $85,000–$120,000 annually for the Morristown, NJ and San Jose, CA locations.

What you will do

• Underwrite new and renewal homeowners risks across the full policy lifecycle.
• Analyze inspections, claims, market intelligence, and other risk data to recommend loss prevention and home maintenance actions.
• Evaluate endorsements, reinstatements, cancellations, and non-renewals under established underwriting guidelines.
• Identify emerging patterns, coverage gaps, and opportunities to improve underwriting guidelines and loss prevention thresholds.
• Collaborate with sales, claims, billing, customer support, product teams, distribution partners, and leadership.
• Document observations, assumptions, recommendations, and market intelligence to support product strategy.

Requirements

• 4+ years of P&C homeowners underwriting experience.
• Ability to interpret underwriting guidelines, policy language, inspection results, claims information, and supporting documentation.
• Strong technical underwriting, analytical, critical-thinking, and decision-making skills.
• Bachelor's degree in finance, business administration, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• Excellent communication skills with technical and non-technical audiences.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and data analysis tools, including pivot tables and basic SQL or similar tools.

Nice to have

• Experience with Socorta.
• Familiarity with home maintenance and loss prevention.
• Experience recommending process improvements or underwriting guideline changes.
