General Maintenance Technician II

Location: Lowell General Hospital, 295 Varnum Avenue, Lowell, Massachusetts, United States. On-site work, 40 hours per week, with day or night shifts, every other weekend and holiday, and possible mandatory overtime for coverage or emergencies.

Salary: $20.12–$25.15 per hour, based on full-time equivalent.

What you will do

• Perform general, preventive, inspection, repair, overhaul, and construction work across hospital buildings and grounds.
• Repair and maintain electrical systems, lighting, HVAC, plumbing, medical gas, steam boilers, hot water systems, and other facility equipment.
• Repair patient beds, electrical and mechanical equipment, safety equipment, fixtures, doors, shelving, locks, plaster, brickwork, and concrete.
• Install, replace, adjust, and service equipment according to diagrams, manuals, specifications, codes, and standards.
• Procure and track parts and materials, maintain inventory, organize storage areas, and keep the workshop and equipment clean.
• Support coworkers with troubleshooting, plant operations projects, snow removal, sanding, and emergency repairs.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least one year of building maintenance experience.
• On-the-job training in one or more building trades.
• Knowledge of general maintenance procedures, electrical work, plumbing, carpentry, painting, tools, equipment safety, blueprints, and specifications.
• Ability to work on site, stand and walk for extended periods, climb stairs and ladders, bend and squat frequently, and lift heavy items occasionally.
• Ability to exercise independent judgment during emergencies and follow applicable safety codes and standards.

Nice to have

• Completion of a vocational or trade school program.
• Two years of building maintenance experience.
