Import & Export Forwarding Supervisor - Dangerous Goods (Air/Ocean Freight): Planning and controlling import and export forwarding operations, staff development, safety programs, and service quality with an accent on dangerous-goods handling, freight documentation, and operational efficiency. Focus on coordinating carriers and vendors, resolving escalations, leading teams, and maintaining compliance with Incoterms and transportation requirements.

Location: South San Francisco, California, United States; hybrid schedule with 3 days in the office and 2 days at home. Working hours are 8:00 AM–5:00 PM PST.

Salary: $67,200–$90,000 yearly.

What you will do

  • Plan, organize, and control import and export forwarding operations, including the movement, processing, sorting, and output of goods.
  • Lead, select, train, and develop a team of 1–15 direct reports.
  • Oversee safety programs, operational procedures, equipment, supplies, payroll documentation, performance reviews, and personnel records.
  • Coordinate with internal and external customers, carriers, and vendors to maintain service quality and resolve operational escalations.
  • Monitor related product movements and activities to improve efficiency, service performance, and cost effectiveness.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of air or ocean freight forwarding experience in import or export operations.
  • At least 2 years of team leadership, supervisory, or equivalent leadership experience.
  • Strong operational knowledge, customer service, communication, and human-relations skills.
  • Knowledge of ocean freight documentation, Incoterms, compliance, and carrier/vendor coordination.
  • Associate or college degree in business or a related field, or equivalent business experience.
  • Transportation IMDG certification and/or ocean forwarders certification is preferred.

Nice to have

  • Experience training, supporting, and overseeing staff.
  • License or certification in the relevant transportation or forwarding field.
