Power Electronics Avionics Engineer

What you will do

• Own the design of a power converter from system architecture and requirements through flight readiness, qualification, and production.
• Define converter topology, component selection, magnetics, control loops, sensing, filtering, protection circuitry, and electrical interfaces.
• Design schematics and multilayer power-electronics PCB layouts, including high-current paths, grounding, isolation, thermal management, and EMI control.
• Model and simulate circuits, perform stability, tolerance, derating, and worst-case analyses, and bring up and debug hardware prototypes.
• Develop and execute tests covering efficiency, regulation, transient response, stability, thermal performance, emissions, and fault behavior.
• Collaborate with systems, mechanical, manufacturing, supply-chain, and test engineers to investigate failures and transition the design into reliable production.

Requirements

• 3+ years of professional experience designing power electronics or power-conversion hardware.
• Experience taking a power converter from architecture through prototype development, hardware bring-up, and testing.
• Strong knowledge of switch-mode converter topologies, control loops, magnetics, power semiconductors, gate drives, sensing, feedback, filtering, isolation, and protection circuits.
• Experience with multilayer power-electronics PCB layout, circuit simulation, tolerance analysis, oscilloscopes, electronic loads, power supplies, network analyzers, and current and differential probes.
• Experience with grounding, parasitics, switching behavior, power integrity, EMI/EMC, root-cause investigation, and failure analysis.
• Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field, or equivalent professional experience. Must meet U.S. export-control eligibility requirements or be eligible to obtain the required authorizations.

Nice to have

• Experience with power electronics for spacecraft, satellites, launch vehicles, aircraft, or other high-reliability systems.
• Experience with solar-array power electronics, maximum power point tracking, battery charging, spacecraft electrical power systems, or high-efficiency DC-DC converters.
• Experience with digital power control, embedded firmware, FPGA-based control, radiation effects, component derating, or worst-case circuit analysis.
• Experience designing for thermal vacuum, vibration, shock, and spaceflight EMC environments.
• Proficiency with Altium Designer, Cadence, LTspice, PSpice, PLECS, or similar tools.
