TL;DR
Sr. Project Engineer – Command & Data Handling (Aerospace): Coordinating the design and production of complex command and data handling modules across engineering, manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and program management with an accent on hardware development lifecycles, production readiness, and technical reviews. Focus on identifying risks, managing cross-program dependencies, leading root-cause investigations, and presenting status and escalation briefings to senior leadership.

Location: Irvine, California, United States. Onsite role in a professional office and manufacturing environment.

Salary: $130,000–$175,000 USD annually.

What you will do

  • Coordinate engineering, manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and program management activities for command and data handling module development.
  • Break down engineering work packages, including durations, dependencies, and resource requirements.
  • Lead module development planning and execution against technical requirements, budgets, and schedules.
  • Identify risks, drive structured problem-solving and root-cause investigations, and develop mitigation plans.
  • Prepare status reports, risk assessments, dashboards, burn-down charts, and escalation briefings for engineering and program leadership.
  • Organize and present PDR, CDR, MRR, TRR, design, and customer reviews.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • At least 5 years of project or program management experience in hardware development and production environments.
  • Understanding of hardware development lifecycles, manufacturing release processes, configuration-controlled releases, build preparation, tooling, test equipment, and production transition.
  • Ability to lead without formal authority, drive accountability, and manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
  • Experience with MS Project, Jira, Confluence, and high-quality technical presentations.
  • Must be a U.S. person or lawful permanent resident in compliance with U.S. government space technology export regulations.

Nice to have

  • Experience with satellite bus, payload, avionics, or aircraft development.
  • Familiarity with FPGA, microprocessors, and high-reliability hardware.
  • Knowledge of EVMS, risk management, configuration control, DFMEA, PFMEA, DFM/DFA, control plans, process flows, APQP, or PPAP.
