TL;DR
Systems Engineer V - PE - Team Manager (Aerospace): Leading complex defense and aerospace programs through system architecture, integration, verification, and engineering execution with an accent on technical baselines, subcontractor coordination, and mission objectives. Focus on directing multidisciplinary teams, managing program risks and deliverables, and serving as the primary engineering interface for executive and Department of Defense customers.

Location: Hybrid or remote within the United States, based in Folsom, CA; Reno, NV; Huntsville, AL; or Long Beach, CA. Approximately 20% travel is required.

Base salary: $153,615–$199,400 per year, excluding benefits and incentive compensation.

What you will do

  • Serve as chief project engineer or senior technical lead for large, multi-phase, and multi-contract defense and aerospace programs.
  • Define system architecture, integration strategies, and verification approaches aligned with customer and mission objectives.
  • Direct engineering execution across Integrated Product Teams and major subcontractors while managing technical, cost, and schedule compliance.
  • Lead technical baseline definition, configuration management, system integration planning, and major design and integration reviews.
  • Interface with executive management and Department of Defense customers during technical interchange meetings and milestone reviews.
  • Manage technical deliverables, proposal support, cost estimation, new business capture, risk management, and engineering process improvements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in aerospace, mechanical, electrical, or another relevant engineering discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • At least 10 years of project engineering experience.
  • Expertise in system integration, verification planning, and risk-based engineering.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams, programs, and major subcontractors.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and presentation skills, including engagement with executive and customer audiences.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance and meet U.S. Government ITAR/EAR eligibility requirements.

  • Controllable solid rocket propulsion systems leadership experience.
  • Functional management experience with small, highly technical teams.
