Electro-Optic Link Hardware Engineer (Photonics)

Location: Mountain View, California, United States; flexible hybrid workplace model

Salary: $155,000–$190,000 USD per year, plus equity and other rewards.

What you will do

• Lead verification and characterization of high-speed electro-optic links across silicon and system programs.
• Perform hands-on laboratory characterization and debug of high-speed electrical and optical hardware, including novel failure modes.
• Build electrical, optical, and electro-optic channel models and correlate them with bench measurements.
• Own link-budget and verification methodology, including eye diagrams, BER, jitter, equalization, and channel impairments.
• Support silicon bring-up and root-cause analysis with analog, package, PCB, and SerDes teams.
• Build automation tools, influence chip/package/system architecture tradeoffs, and mentor senior and staff engineers.

Requirements

• MS or PhD in electrical engineering, photonics, or physics with 8+ years of experience, or BS/MS with 10+ years.
• Experience owning verification strategy for a complete silicon or system program.
• Deep expertise in 56G/112G/224G+ serial links, SerDes equalization including CTLE, FFE, and DFE, and signal integrity including S-parameters, crosstalk, and link budgets.
• Hands-on experience leading difficult laboratory investigations and silicon bring-up or root-cause debugging.
• Strong Python and MATLAB skills for team-used automation frameworks.
• Proficiency with VNAs, oscilloscopes, BERTs, TDRs, ADS, HFSS, Cadence, or COMSOL, plus a track record of mentoring engineers.

Nice to have

• Architecture-level silicon photonics or electro-optic systems experience.
• Package, PCB, and channel co-design ownership.
• COM/IBIS-AMI modeling or contributions to patents and standards such as OIF or IEEE 802.3.
