Systems Engineer III (E3)

Location: Santa Clara, CA, United States. Onsite engineering role with approximately 10% travel; relocation eligible.

Salary: $138,000–$190,000 per year, plus potential bonus and stock awards.

What you will do

• Support product development across requirements, system specifications, design, prototyping, verification, validation, manufacturing, installation, and field support.
• Identify scope, constraints, and risks for advanced optical components and assemblies used in high-performance optical lithography systems.
• Lead subsystem and optical assembly projects, coordinating schedules and cross-functional engineering teams.
• Define subsystem requirements, maintain error budgets, and develop and execute test plans, design-of-experiments, and feasibility studies.
• Collaborate with suppliers and support manufacturing and customer-site teams during installation, qualification, production, and failure analysis.
• Develop optical metrology hardware and software, diagnostics, and calibration solutions; troubleshoot complex system-level issues and present technical recommendations.

Requirements

• MS or PhD in optics, physics, electrical engineering, or a related field.
• 0–7 years of relevant experience with complex opto-mechanical instrumentation or optical systems.
• Hands-on experience designing, assembling, calibrating, and using systems containing light sources, optical sensors, lenses, and filters.
• Experience creating test plans, conducting concept and feasibility studies, troubleshooting, and performing data analysis and visualization.
• Strong programming or scripting skills in Matlab, Python, or similar tools, including system and subsystem software debugging.
• Ability to collaborate across disciplines, manage multiple projects, and drive parallel work to completion.

Nice to have

• Image processing, software automation, optical modeling and simulation, or optical metrology development and qualification experience.
• Experience with AI tools, including Claude Code.
• Experience supporting manufacturing and service organizations through training, documentation, and troubleshooting.
