ATE Mechanical Engineer (Clean Energy)

Location: Mountain View, California, United States; approximately 10–20% travel to domestic and international contract manufacturing sites.

Salary: $93,600–$166,400 USD annually.

What you will do

• Lead the mechanical product development lifecycle for home energy systems, from fundamental design through production deployment.
• Design reliable, manufacturable parts, assemblies, test fixtures, jigs, and high-cycle mechanical components.
• Evaluate concepts through calculations, physical testing, multi-physics simulations, tolerance analysis, load-path analysis, and finite element analysis.
• Create drawings, specifications, bills of materials, cost and mass roll-ups, work instructions, inspection methods, and preventive maintenance documentation.
• Collaborate with electrical and automated test engineers, suppliers, technicians, and contract manufacturers on prototypes, production, and onsite build support.
• Manage engineering releases, supplier activities, manufacturing processes, and production support.

Requirements

• Extensive experience with 3D modeling software such as Onshape, NX, or SolidWorks, plus detailed 2D drawings and GD&T.
• Experience with tolerance stackups, statics and load-path analysis, finite element analysis, root-cause analysis, and design FMEA.
• Knowledge of PCBA bed-of-nails fixtures, mechanical control outlines, fine-pitch assemblies, strain-gauge measurements, and electromechanical troubleshooting.
• Working knowledge of pneumatic cylinders and controls, thermal management, test fixtures, jigs, and high-cycle mechanical components.
• Prototyping experience with 3D printing, machining, sheet-metal bending, laser cutting, milling, and general machine-shop tools.
• Experience with supplier manufacturing support, including design-for-manufacturing reviews, first article inspection, part production approval processes, process FMEA, and onsite build support.
