Senior Android Developer (Robotics)

Location: Remote in California, United States. Travel up to 25% may be required for field testing, customer integrations, and demonstrations.

Salary: $132,000–$183,000 annually, plus annual equity and potential bonuses.

What you will do

• Design, build, and maintain Android applications for swarm planning, monitoring, and tactical control.
• Integrate GIS layers, map tiles, vector overlays, and DTED elevation models into mission-planning interfaces.
• Implement low-latency telemetry, command, and control over UDP, TCP, WebSockets, MQTT, or similar transports.
• Build interfaces for ruggedized Android devices used outdoors in sunlight, with gloves, and over unreliable networks.
• Collaborate with backend, autonomy, and field engineers to ship features for operational use.
• Support field exercises, customer demonstrations, and live drone operations.

Requirements

• 7+ years of professional Android development experience, primarily with Kotlin; Java experience is acceptable as a secondary language.
• Strong knowledge of Jetpack, coroutines, and lifecycle-aware Android architecture.
• Hands-on experience with mobile GIS, coordinate systems including WGS84, MGRS, and UTM, and DTED-based terrain features.
• Experience with Android mapping libraries such as osmdroid, MapLibre, Mapbox, or Google Maps SDK.
• Experience implementing real-time data pipelines using sockets, WebSockets, MQTT, gRPC, or Protobuf, with multithreading and offline-first design.
• ITAR/EAR-restricted work requires proof of U.S. citizenship or permanent residence and no need for sponsorship.

Nice to have

• ATAK plugin development and familiarity with TAK Server, WinTAK, iTAK, and Cursor on Target messaging.
• Experience with drone control, ground control stations, MAVLink, military, defense, or first-responder deployments.
• Experience with MIL-STD-2525, offline map caching, QGIS, ArcGIS, GDAL, GeoTools, or JTS.
• U.S. security clearance or ability to obtain one.
