Senior Associate Legal Counsel – Commercial Transactions (Energy)

Location: Washington, DC

Salary: $165,400–$223,300 per year, plus eligibility for short-term incentive compensation.

What you will do

• Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements supporting utility operations, engineering, construction, procurement, and strategic initiatives.
• Provide practical legal advice that balances risk management with operational objectives.
• Support infrastructure and growth projects involving commercial, real estate, and land use matters.
• Partner with engineering, construction, procurement, real estate, compliance, and regulatory stakeholders.
• Advise on infrastructure modernization, renewable natural gas initiatives, and large customer developments.
• Share legal knowledge, improve processes, and strengthen the capabilities of the legal team.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor degree and at least 5 years of experience in commercial, infrastructure, real estate, energy, or related legal practice.
• Active membership in good standing with at least one state bar and the ability to practice in DC, Maryland, or Virginia.
• Strong commercial contracting and legal advisory experience, ideally in energy, utilities, infrastructure, or similarly complex industries.
• Sound judgment, practical problem-solving skills, and the ability to manage matters independently and escalate risks appropriately.
• Collaborative approach with the ability to build relationships across diverse business functions.
• Intellectual curiosity, adaptability, and willingness to develop expertise across varied legal and business topics.
