TL;DR
Counsel / Senior Counsel (Environmental Law): Providing legal counsel on environmental compliance, permitting, regulatory matters, and environmental due diligence for an energy company with an accent on managing environmental risk and supporting operating business units. Focus on advising facilities and projects, interacting with regulators, developing compliance training, and resolving complex environmental legal issues.

Location: Findlay, Ohio, with additional locations in Denver, Colorado; Houston, Texas; and San Antonio, Texas. The role requires a current license to practice law in a U.S. state and continued employment is conditioned upon obtaining and maintaining membership in Ohio or another State Bar.

Salary: $141,300–$243,800 per year, with eligibility for a discretionary annual bonus.

What you will do

  • Provide primary legal support to operating business units on environmental and regulatory matters.
  • Advise on federal, state, and local environmental laws affecting facilities and daily operations.
  • Support environmental permitting for new projects and conduct environmental due diligence for mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures.
  • Interact with federal, state, and local regulatory agencies and collaborate with internal stakeholders and legal colleagues.
  • Develop compliance programs, presentations, and training for company leaders and employees.
  • Research environmental law and policy, develop advocacy positions, and provide subject-matter guidance on legislative and regulatory matters.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctorate degree.
  • Current license to practice law in a U.S. state and good standing; Ohio or another State Bar membership must be maintained during employment.
  • At least 5 years of relevant legal experience.
  • Subject-matter expertise in one or more areas of environmental law.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, negotiation, drafting, communication, and legal-risk management skills.
  • Ability to provide independent counsel, manage multiple matters, and explain complex legal subjects to others.

Nice to have

  • Experience with hazardous-material transportation laws and regulations, including FMCSA, FRA, and PHMSA requirements.
  • Experience with OSHA and process or personal safety regulations.
  • Experience with Clean Water Act compliance, including NPDES, Section 401/404, and SPCC plans.
