Senior Environmental & Construction Defect Claims Specialist (Remote)

Location: Remote, associated with Farmington Hills, Michigan, United States; overnight travel of up to 20% required.

What you will do

• Manage litigated and non-litigated environmental, toxic tort, and construction defect claims involving high complexity and exposure across multiple jurisdictions.
• Investigate and evaluate coverage, liability, damages, applicable law, and legal developments throughout the life of each claim.
• Develop action plans, identify early-resolution opportunities, evaluate risk transfer, and negotiate settlements.
• Establish and adjust loss reserves, report large losses, and present claims during file conferences and reviews.
• Provide technical oversight and serve as a subject matter expert for high-severity and high-complexity claims.
• Participate in mediations, settlement conferences, and trials while directing external resources and counsel.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree required; Juris Doctorate preferred.
• 10 years of commercial claims experience, including 7 years handling moderate- to high-complexity environmental and toxic tort claims.
• At least 5 years of experience handling litigated files and directing outside defense and coverage counsel.
• Extensive knowledge of contract and coverage laws across multiple jurisdictions, with experience in Texas, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, and Arizona.
• Ability to obtain appropriate state licensing, lead discussions, present technical results to non-technical audiences, and manage ambiguity.
• Willingness to travel overnight up to 20%.
