Claims Counsel, Management Liability

Location: Remote - USA

Salary: $150,000–$160,000 annual

What you will do

• Independently manage complex and high-severity Management Liability claims involving private companies and nonprofit organizations.
• Analyze policy coverage and prepare reservation of rights, coverage position, and declination letters.
• Evaluate liability, damages, financial exposure, reserves, settlements, mediations, and other dispute resolution opportunities.
• Direct litigation, retain and manage defense and coverage counsel, monitor legal spend, and develop resolution strategies.
• Partner with underwriting, brokers, insureds, carrier partners, reinsurers, and defense counsel on claims trends, portfolio performance, and emerging risks.
• Mentor claims professionals, support audits and process improvements, and use claims technology, automation, and AI-enabled tools to improve efficiency and outcomes.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor degree and active bar membership.
• 7–10 years of experience handling Management Liability claims.
• Expertise in private company D&O, nonprofit organization liability, EPL, and Fiduciary Liability coverage analysis.
• Experience with complex coverage correspondence, shareholder and governance disputes, regulatory investigations, bankruptcy, insolvency, and executive liability claims.
• Strong analytical, negotiation, litigation management, financial analysis, relationship management, written, verbal, and presentation skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and claims management systems, with the ability to work effectively in a collaborative, high-performing team.

Nice to have

• Experience with private equity-backed, venture-backed, founder-led, or closely held organizations.
• Experience with an MGA, specialty insurer, E&S carrier, or Management Liability insurance carrier.
• Experience operating under delegated claims authority and presenting portfolio analytics to senior stakeholders.
• CPCU, RPLU, SCLA, ARC, or a similar industry designation.
