Senior Counsel – EHS & Litigation (Environmental Health and Safety)

Location: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States; hybrid schedule with two days per week working from home.

What you will do

• Develop and implement global legal strategies for environmental, health, and safety compliance and litigation.
• Advise manufacturing sites on EHS laws, regulatory filings, agency communications, and corporate standards.
• Lead environmental remediation and enforcement-defense strategies for active and legacy sites.
• Negotiate with government agencies and potentially responsible parties and oversee remedy implementation.
• Develop and deliver EHS training, support audits and corrective action plans, and advise on regulatory compliance.
• Coordinate with Risk Management and insurers on legacy environmental and toxic tort liabilities and support related disputes, arbitrations, and litigation.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
• Active license to practice law in Pennsylvania and membership in good standing with the Pennsylvania Bar.
• At least seven years of experience as an EHS law subject matter expert, particularly in U.S. EHS law.
• Deep knowledge of U.S. environmental regulations, permitting, compliance, due diligence, and remediation projects.
• Experience managing and litigating complex environmental remediation and EHS matters, including resolution negotiations.
• Strong leadership, communication, negotiation, strategic thinking, organization, and independent judgment skills.

Nice to have

• At least two years of in-house experience in a global manufacturing organization.
• Experience with toxic tort and related litigation.
• Experience with non-U.S. environmental regulatory authorities.
• Experience in the chemical or life sciences sectors.
• Experience with pesticide regulations such as FIFRA and in-house legal departments.
