SMT Machine Operator/Assembler (SMT Manufacturing)

Location: Ottawa, Ontario, Canada; onsite manufacturing role on the 3:30 pm–12:00 midnight shift

Salary: CAD 41,300–55,000 per year, plus a 10% shift premium

Manufacturing and design operations produce rugged, high-mix, small-batch products for military requirements using AS9100- and ISO-9001-certified processes, SAP, MES, and component traceability systems.

What you will do

• Set up and operate SMT placement equipment, stencil washers, printers, pick-and-place machines, laser marking equipment, and reflow ovens.
• Perform online and offline SMT setup, including electronic feeder loading, stripping, scanning, tray counting, and basic troubleshooting.
• Follow work instructions, drawings, diagrams, safety procedures, and material-handling requirements.
• Perform SMT quality control, preventive maintenance, and production documentation.
• Identify missing or damaged parts, support production schedules, and help minimize downtime and maximize output.
• Work collaboratively with manufacturing and other departments while supporting shift rotations as required.

Requirements

• High school diploma.
• At least 2 years of manufacturing experience, preferably with pick-and-place equipment, paste printers, and reflow ovens.
• Experience in a low-volume, high-mix PWB assembly environment and with formal procedures and supporting documents.
• Ability to read work instructions, blueprints, diagrams, and assembly drawings, and to use measuring tools.
• Ability to lift consumable supplies and use lifting equipment for heavier loads.
• Strong organization, communication, teamwork, multitasking, and schedule-change response skills.

Nice to have

• College certificate or diploma in manufacturing, mechanical engineering technology, electrical technology, or industrial training.
• Experience with 3D AOI and X-ray inspection.
• SAP knowledge.
