TL;DR
Senior Build Reliability Engineer (Aerospace): Building and scaling reliability processes, controls, inspections, and quality systems for the Terran R launch vehicle with an accent on aerospace manufacturing, complex assembly, and production readiness. Focus on in-process build verification, configuration management, nonconformance resolution, root cause and corrective action, and coordinating quality initiatives across engineering, manufacturing, test, and launch teams.

Location: Long Beach, California, United States. Onsite second-shift role, Monday through Friday, 3:00pm–1:30am PT, with a baseline expectation of a 50-hour workweek.

Hiring range: $122,000–$182,000 USD annually, plus a 10% shift differential.

What you will do

  • Own design quality activities including drawing standardization, design for manufacturability, configuration management, and configuration control.
  • Review work instructions and develop manufacturing processes and standard rework or repair documentation.
  • Perform in-process build verification and coordinate travelled work across manufacturing operations.
  • Manage nonconformance ticket processes, as-built verification, root cause analysis, and corrective actions.
  • Drive quality initiatives such as specification development, walk-down checklists, inspection automation, and DFM improvements.
  • Partner with Engineering, Additive, Manufacturing, Test, and Launch teams to support the Terran R program.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or another STEM field.
  • At least 5 years of experience as a Quality Engineer in a fast-paced manufacturing company.
  • Extensive experience working with design engineering, manufacturing, production, and test personnel.
  • In-depth knowledge of aerospace manufacturing, complex assembly practices, and quality processes and controls.
  • Working knowledge of PLM, MES, ERP, and QMS software, plus proficiency in GD&T.
  • Ability to solve complex cross-functional problems, establish project goals, and communicate with team members, leaders, and senior management.

Nice to have

  • Knowledge of FMEA, APQP, SPC, or PPV methodologies.
  • Successful NPI experience for hardware systems entering manufacturing, test, and production.
  • Familiarity with high-volume inspection and data-driven acceptance methods.
  • Understanding of AS9100 and ISO9001 practices in aerospace programs.
  • Experience defining and implementing processes from scratch across diverse teams.
