TL;DR
Assessment Design & Principles Lead (Education Assessment): Designing and improving valid, fair, reliable, and manageable assessment models for paper-based and digital qualifications with an accent on evidence-based practice, regulatory alignment, and inclusive digital exam design. Focus on analysing assessment data, leading cross-functional reform projects, developing assessment principles, and embedding best practice through expert guidance and training.
Location: Hybrid working with a minimum of two days per week in the Manchester or Guildford office; final-stage interviews take place in the closest office.
Salary: £52,800–£59,000 in Manchester or £55,000–£61,400 in Guildford.

What you will do
- Design and advise on valid, fair, reliable, and manageable assessment models and sample assessment materials.
- Lead assessment design for new digital products, including inclusive digital exam design and collaboration with digital assessment providers.
- Analyse assessment performance data, identify trends and root causes, and drive evidence-based improvements.
- Lead complex cross-team projects involving resources, budgets, stakeholder collaboration, and regulatory compliance.
- Provide expert guidance, training, mentoring, and knowledge sharing on assessment principles and best practice.
- Review assessments for quality assurance and engage with external stakeholders, including Ofqual.
Requirements
- Strong understanding of assessment practice in England and the regulatory environment.
- In-depth knowledge of assessment design and delivery best practice, including digital assessment and inclusive digital exam design.
- Ability to design assessments across subjects while balancing regulatory, customer, and stakeholder needs.
- Experience analysing complex data, conducting root cause analysis, and applying continuous improvement principles.
- Proven experience leading change initiatives and assessment design or principles projects.
- Degree-level education or equivalent professional experience, plus experience managing assessment creation and strategic improvements.
