XPLORER 2027 Continuum Damage Mechanics (Aerospace)

Location: Getafe Area, Spain; 6-month curricular internship from February to July 2027, part time at 5 hours per day.

What you will do

• Join the Advanced Simulation for Rear Fuselage and Empennage team.
• Develop advanced methodologies for structural analysis and virtual testing.
• Study and implement constitutive models for anisotropic ductile metallic failure.
• Code and integrate the selected solution for FEM simulations in ABAQUS or other numerical simulation software.
• Verify the implementation and validate it against coupon, assembly-detail, and component-level structural tests.
• Apply the method to a real airframe structure and correlate virtual testing with experimental results.

Requirements

• Currently studying for a degree in Aerospace Engineering.
• English at minimum B2 level; C1 is desirable.
• Spanish at minimum B1 level.
• General knowledge of structural analysis and continuum solid mechanics.
• Programming skills in Fortran, Python, Matlab, or similar languages.
• Knowledge of FEM modeling and post-processing, particularly in ABAQUS, plus analytical, problem-solving, and collaboration skills.
