Senior Software Engineer, Full Stack Web Development – GCP & Vertex AI Focus (AI)

Location: Hybrid in Austin, Texas; attendance at the Austin TX IT Innovation Center is required 3–4 days per week

What you will do

• Build modern full-stack web applications and services using GCP-native technologies.
• Design and develop an enterprise-wide search platform with Vertex AI Search for marketing, owner, support, and other digital experiences.
• Define search schemas, indexing pipelines, relevance signals, personalization, experimentation, and A/B testing approaches.
• Develop secure APIs and backend services for search and recommendation capabilities across web and mobile clients.
• Investigate full-stack performance bottlenecks and lead improvements in reliability, observability, testing, quality gates, and delivery pipelines.
• Serve as a technical leader, mentoring engineers and driving architecture, technical decisions, and engineering best practices.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years of web application development experience.
• Strong frontend and backend skills with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Java, Python, and/or server-side JavaScript.
• Hands-on experience operating production workloads on GCP, including Cloud Run, GKE, Cloud Functions, Pub/Sub, Cloud Storage, Cloud SQL/Spanner, and BigQuery.
• Experience with AI-powered search or recommendation systems, ideally Vertex AI Search or comparable semantic/vector search platforms.
• Experience with system design, testing, debugging, automation, and performance optimization.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field and 7+ years of relevant experience.
• React, Adobe Experience Manager, Akamai, Microsoft Azure, Helm, Terraform, or ArgoCD experience.
• Direct experience with Vertex AI Search schemas, indexing, ingestion pipelines, tuning, and evaluation.
• Experience with LLM/embedding-based retrieval, RAG, experimentation, and personalization.
