Staff GNC Engineer (Aerospace)

Base pay: $154,000–$228,000 per year

What you will do

• Lead the design and implementation of flight control algorithms for electric VTOL aircraft.
• Connect GNC requirements with broader system requirements and influence aircraft design and system architecture decisions.
• Build simulations and improve vehicle and environment models to verify and validate system requirements.
• Run trade studies, analyze full-scale and subscale flight data, and improve model fidelity.
• Author software requirements and test cases for GNC software and collaborate with Systems Engineering and Systems Safety.
• Work with Flight Test to design safe tests that evaluate vehicle capabilities and identify deficiencies in the Flight Control System.

Requirements

• Strong knowledge of vehicle dynamics, optimization, and classical and modern control theory.
• BS in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical/Computer Engineering, or a related field with at least 10 years of relevant experience; or MS with at least 8 years; or PhD with at least 6 years.
• Proficiency in MATLAB and Simulink.

Nice to have

• Experience verifying GNC systems in simulation and on hardware.
• Experience with envelope protection, physics/sensor/actuator modeling, and system identification for aircraft or rotorcraft.
• Knowledge of fault detection and isolation techniques.
• Experience with trajectory generation, optimization algorithms, or flight testing piloted and autonomous aircraft.
• Piloting experience with aircraft or rotorcraft.
