Staff Software Engineer (Java/Distributed Systems)

Base salary: $160,000–$210,000 USD per year

What you will do

• Set technical direction for Flow migration engines, CDC pipelines, schema evolution, large-table migrations, APIs, Helios integration, and agent-assisted workflows.
• Lead complex, release-defining initiatives from problem definition through production rollout.
• Design and implement production-quality Java software while making architecture and build-versus-defer decisions.
• Solve reliability and data-consistency challenges involving replication, schema drift, throughput, concurrency, memory use, failure recovery, and backward compatibility.
• Improve testing, observability, dashboards, runbooks, incident response, and operational readiness.
• Mentor engineers, lead technical reviews, document architecture, and collaborate with Product, Engineering, Support, Solutions, and customers.

Requirements

• 10+ years of professional experience building and operating production software, or equivalent depth and impact.
• Expert-level Java experience, including debugging and improving complex enterprise codebases.
• Strong database and data-intensive systems experience, including JDBC, SQL metadata, transactions, replication, indexing, and data consistency.
• Deep experience with MySQL and PostgreSQL, plus Java performance engineering and Change Data Capture or comparable replication technologies.
• Experience designing reliable distributed systems, cloud-native services, container orchestration, testing, observability, profiling, and production issue investigation.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience; strong communication and mentoring skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with Oracle, SQL Server, MongoDB, SAP HANA, Snowflake, Salesforce, or hirify.global.
• Experience with schema evolution, datatype mapping, large-table migration, throughput tuning, or zero-downtime data movement.
• Experience with Go, TypeScript, React, GraphQL, gRPC, Kubernetes-native services, or agentic and LLM-based applications.
• Experience working directly with enterprise customers or customer-facing engineering teams.
