Staff Software Engineer, Backend, Level 6 (AI)

Location: Los Angeles, United States; office work is expected 4+ days per week under hirify.global's default-together policy.

What you will do

• Design, implement, and operate critical scalable services, including user identity, friend graph, and core persistence systems.
• Work across teams to understand product requirements, evaluate trade-offs, and deliver technical solutions.
• Test and debug services while maintaining high standards for code quality and production readiness.
• Improve availability, scalability, operational excellence, and cost management.
• Use AI tools and high-velocity engineering workflows to build scalable services while reviewing generated output for architectural, performance, and security risks.

Requirements

• 9+ years of post-bachelor's software development experience, or equivalent experience with an advanced technical degree.
• Experience building backend services and distributed systems, including highly available systems at significant scale.
• At least 1 year of technical leadership or domain-expert experience.
• Experience with large-scale microservices, cloud computing, infrastructure, security, networking, data storage, or machine learning and natural language processing tools.
• Proficiency in or strong aptitude for using AI tools, with the judgment to evaluate architectural integrity, performance, and security.
• Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

Nice to have

• Experience with Java, C++, or Python.
• Experience with NoSQL, Memcache or Redis, Kubernetes, or Google and AWS services.
