Flight Dynamics Engineer (Space Operations): Supporting satellite operations and flight dynamics systems for Earth observation, Copernicus Sentinel, and interplanetary missions with an accent on orbit and attitude determination, manoeuvre analysis, and spacecraft software validation. Focus on preparing and launching new missions, solving complex orbital mechanics problems, and participating in a 24/7 on-call rotation.

Location: Onsite in Darmstadt, Germany, at ESA's European Space Operations Centre. The role includes participation in a 24/7 on-call rotation.

What you will do

  • Perform routine flight dynamics operations using telemetry, tracking, and GNSS data.
  • Conduct orbit and attitude determination and prediction, including spacecraft state and AOCS parameter estimation.
  • Support orbit manoeuvre optimisation, calibration, analysis, and spacecraft telecommand file generation.
  • Maintain, configure, develop, test, and validate flight dynamics systems, software, tools, and operational procedures.
  • Prepare special operations, mission-end campaigns, new mission launches, simulations, and technical studies.
  • Collaborate with flight control and other technical teams in an international, multidisciplinary environment.

Requirements

  • University degree in aerospace engineering, mathematics, physics, or a related engineering or scientific discipline.
  • Strong knowledge of classical mechanics, orbital mechanics, spacecraft attitude dynamics and control, linear algebra, calculus, and numerical methods.
  • Ability to define, implement, validate, and operate engineering and flight dynamics software.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, prioritisation, and teamwork skills.
  • Fluent written and spoken English required.
  • Valid authorisation to work in Germany and willingness to undergo the required security clearance.

Nice to have

  • Professional experience in flight dynamics, satellite operations, or space situational awareness.
  • Knowledge of UNIX/Linux operating systems.
  • Experience with object-oriented programming languages, orbit or attitude determination, spacecraft manoeuvres, or operational satellite missions.
