Senior Space Systems Engineer (Mission Optimization)

Location: Berlin, Germany; hybrid work with 3 days per week in the Berlin office

hirify.global designs, builds, and operates a large Earth observation satellite constellation and delivers satellite imagery through a cloud-based data platform.

What you will do

• Define and own concepts of operations for new missions, spacecraft capabilities, and customer products from early design through nominal operations.
• Lead fleet optimization initiatives across engineering, operations, and product organizations.
• Translate contractual and customer obligations into operational concepts and achievable fleet capacity commitments.
• Model and analyze operational data to identify capacity, latency, and agility constraints.
• Design, develop, and maintain software that implements mission optimization concepts.
• Act as a technical interface and subject-matter expert while mentoring engineers.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience in spacecraft operations, mission systems engineering, or a related field.
• Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline.
• Experience owning concepts of operations for complex systems from definition through implementation.
• Working proficiency in Python or a comparable programming language, including systems modeling, operational data analysis, and production coding.
• Quantitative and statistical analysis skills, with experience reasoning over large operational datasets.
• Experience leading cross-functional technical initiatives, negotiating with senior stakeholders, and mentoring engineers.

Nice to have

• Experience with large-scale satellite constellations, commercial Earth observation, tasking, or fulfillment systems.
• Background in optimization, scheduling, or operations research.
• Experience taking a mission from design through commissioning and nominal operations.
• Familiarity with orbital mechanics, link budgets, and spacecraft resource modeling.
• Experience with Git, GitLab, Docker, CI/CD, Linux, Sentry, or Datadog.
