Technical Planning Specialist (Electrical Utility)

Location: Hybrid role based at the SCE Corporate Warehouse in Santa Ana, California; employees must work and reside in California. The position includes up to 25% travel and field work throughout the SCE service territory.

Salary: $41.92–$62.84 per hour

What you will do

• Develop electrical distribution plans, construction drawings, circuit maps, calculations, resource requirements, and cost estimates.
• Plan overhead and underground distribution facilities for residential, commercial, and industrial projects.
• Manage work orders and multiple projects, monitoring scope, timelines, budgets, risks, issues, and escalations.
• Coordinate with customers, engineering, government agencies, internal departments, and external stakeholders.
• Support licensing and certification proceedings for distribution and transmission lines and substation sites.
• Perform field inspections to gather planning data and verify compliance with approved plans.

Requirements

• At least one year of experience in electrical utility distribution, transmission, telecommunications design or construction, or engineering.
• Valid Class C driver’s license.
• Ability to manage competing priorities, make critical decisions, and maintain accuracy under time constraints.
• Ability to collaborate with customers, peers, management, agencies, and other stakeholders.
• Must work and reside in California and be able to report to an SCE facility for designated hybrid workdays.

Nice to have

• Experience with CAD, GIS, Microsoft Office, customer service, project coordination, or utility environments.
• Training or education in engineering, pole loading, drafting, construction, mapping, mathematics, science, or IT.
• Ability to read or create simple distribution or technical drawings.
• Planner Utility Certification Program completion.
