Electrical Technician (Relay Protection)

Location: Tracy, California, United States; onsite. The position requires travel between multiple hydroelectric facility sites during work hours and may require transfer to another headquarters within the PG&E service region.

Salary: $82.53 per hour, subject to collectively bargained wage rates and increases.

What you will do

• Install, field-test, calibrate, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain protective relay equipment and associated control systems.
• Maintain relay carriers, station apparatus, instruments, remote and local control devices, SCADA systems, and related wiring.
• Test electromechanical and microprocessor relays, current and potential transformers, transducers, and other protection equipment.
• Read electrical drawings, schematics, elementaries, and connection diagrams while recording and filing test results.
• Operate company vehicles and work with other technicians to safely maintain hydroelectric powerhouses and related facilities.
• Perform field work on mountainous terrain, dams, canals, ladders, scaffolding, and other uneven or confined areas.

Requirements

• Must be based in and work onsite in Tracy, California, with travel between PG&E site locations.
• At least 18 years old, with a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience.
• Valid California driver's license required.
• Previous Journeyman Electrical Technician experience, including at least two years in relay and control and two years testing protective relay equipment in a power station or high-voltage substation.
• Certified journey-level Electrician qualification.
• Ability to work extended hours, nights, weekends, holidays, extreme weather, heights, confined spaces, energized equipment areas, and physically demanding terrain; lift up to 100 pounds at least once per day.

Nice to have

• Four-year degree in Electrical Engineering, or a two-year associate degree in Electrical Engineering Technology with two years of relay and control experience.
• Completed apprentice electrical technician program.
• Experience with electromechanical and microprocessor protective relays in substations or powerhouses.
• Strong ability to interpret electrical drawings and schematics and perform detailed, intricate technical work.
