Senior Counsel, Privacy

Location: Remote in the United States, with listed locations in Arlington, VA, Austin, TX, and Novi, MI

What you will do

• Own discrete privacy workstreams from issue-spotting through resolution with limited supervision.
• Advise internal stakeholders on HIPAA, U.S. healthcare privacy laws, data breach requirements, and related regulatory risks.
• Guide business, product, and engineering teams on AI laws, governance frameworks, and responsible AI practices.
• Review privacy provisions in vendor agreements, data use agreements, and business associate agreements.
• Develop privacy policies, procedures, and training materials while partnering with Compliance, Security, IT, and business teams.
• Monitor legal developments and support privacy incidents, regulatory inquiries, and audits.

Requirements

• J.D. and an active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction, in good standing.
• At least 6 years of total legal experience, including 2 or more years at a law firm handling substantive privacy or healthcare regulatory work.
• Required experience advising healthcare organizations or clients on privacy, regulatory, or compliance matters.
• Working knowledge of HIPAA and U.S. privacy laws applicable to healthcare entities.
• Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, exercise sound judgment, and communicate complex legal concepts clearly.
• Comfort using generative AI, legal research, and drafting tools in daily legal work, with interest in AI governance and related regulation.

Nice to have

• CIPP, CIPM, AIGP, or similar professional certification.
• Familiarity with the NIST Privacy Framework or NIST AI Risk Management Framework.
• Prior in-house experience in healthcare or health technology.
