Privacy Counsel (AI)

Location: San Francisco, CA or New York City, NY. Hybrid role requiring staff to work from one of these offices at least 3 days per week.

Annual salary: $265,000–$335,000 USD.

What you will do

• Advise product, research, and engineering teams on privacy issues throughout AI model and product lifecycles.
• Translate technical architectures into clear privacy, security, and data protection guidance.
• Lead privacy strategy for strategic deals and partnerships involving novel technologies.
• Draft and negotiate DPAs, BAAs, data sharing agreements, and cross-border data transfer terms.
• Lead privacy diligence for mergers and acquisitions and support corporate governance.
• Collaborate with legal and privacy colleagues to develop well-reasoned positions on complex issues.

Requirements

• JD from an accredited law school and active membership in at least one U.S. state bar.
• Hands-on experience advising technology businesses on privacy and data protection.
• Experience drafting and negotiating DPAs, BAAs, and data sharing agreements.
• Working knowledge of privacy laws in the Americas, EEA, and APAC.
• Ability to understand technical documentation, including system designs and architecture diagrams.
• Excellent legal writing with clear and concise advice.

Nice to have

• At least 8 years of privacy and data protection legal experience.
• Deep familiarity with software, AI model development, and technical architecture.
• Experience building scalable privacy processes, playbooks, and templates.
• Experience engaging with privacy regulators and handling privacy work in mergers and acquisitions.
• Background advising safety, security, or trust and safety teams on privacy incidents and notification decisions.
