Principal AI Engineer (LATAM Remote)

Location: Remote from LATAM; Guadalajara, Mexico

What you will do

• Own the agentic function across internal data-engineering and data-science agents, customer and partner-facing agents, and MCP servers.
• Design, build, and deploy production LLM agents with tool interfaces, human-in-the-loop approval gates, tiered access, and rollback controls.
• Build evaluation harnesses with offline and online evaluation, regression testing, guardrails, and observability.
• Develop context and retrieval systems for proprietary domain data, including structured retrieval, GraphRAG, property graphs, ontologies, and semantic layers.
• Partner with applied science and data/ML teams on pipelines, embeddings, and vector stores without owning model training.
• Communicate architecture and roadmap to executives and investors while writing production code, hiring, and growing the team.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience shipping production software with strong full-stack and backend engineering skills.
• Strong Python experience with production APIs, data models, testing, and CI; experience with TypeScript/Node or Go is beneficial.
• Proven experience shipping stateful, multi-step LLM agents with tool calling and orchestration such as LangGraph or an equivalent.
• Experience building production evaluation harnesses and working with determinism, drift, guardrails, and agent observability.
• Experience owning production retrieval systems and evaluating chunking, structured retrieval, context assembly, and retrieval quality.
• Experience leading an agentic initiative or team from architecture through production and communicating agent systems to executives and investors.

Nice to have

• Experience with graph-backed retrieval, knowledge graphs, ontologies, property graphs, or triple stores.
• Experience fine-tuning or distilling open-source models with LoRA/QLoRA or optimizing context and prompts.
• Experience operating open-source models such as Llama, Qwen, or Mistral through Databricks, vLLM, or similar platforms.
