Staff Engineer (AI Agents)

Location: Melbourne, Australia; hybrid with an average of 2 days per week in the local hirify.global office

What you will do

• Set the technical direction for the Agent Hub’s foundational capabilities, including agent execution, orchestration, MCP tools, identity, context, knowledge, evaluation, and operational visibility.
• Design, build, and operate autonomous agents, workflows, and integrations for internal business use cases.
• Build reusable MCP servers and tool patterns with schemas, credential brokering, identity-aware access, authorization, and auditable system interactions.
• Shape knowledge and context architecture using document retrieval, vector search, knowledge graphs, registries, and semantic models.
• Move prototypes into secure, tested, observable, reliable, and cost-aware managed services with safe human escalation.
• Partner with business teams, establish governance patterns, and enable teams through coaching, architecture guidance, documentation, and playbooks.

Requirements

• Strong backend engineering skills in TypeScript and/or Python, including APIs, testing, service design, production systems, and integrations.
• Experience delivering and operating cloud-native solutions in AWS, with knowledge of security, identity, permissions, secrets, and production reliability.
• Hands-on experience with AI agents, Claude or similar tools, MCP or comparable integration patterns, and single-agent, multi-agent, workflow, and human-in-the-loop systems.
• Knowledge of agent runtime concerns such as tool permissions, identity propagation, session state, token and time budgets, retries, evaluation, tracing, cost attribution, and auditability.
• Experience designing knowledge or memory architectures using vector or graph-based retrieval.
• Experience taking ambiguous problems from discovery through shipped, governed solutions and defining secure self-service platform patterns.

Nice to have

• Experience building greenfield platforms and defining engineering patterns from zero.
• Pragmatic interest in autonomous agents, MCP, and knowledge graphs focused on measurable value and safe operation at scale.
