Product Infrastructure Engineer

Location: Hybrid in San Francisco or New York City, United States; office attendance is required on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays.

Salary: $150,000–$200,000 base per year for roles based in San Francisco or New York City, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

• Build core frameworks and data models for reading and writing data across Notion.
• Use AWS, Postgres, Node, TypeScript, and React as needed across the stack.
• Design abstractions that improve developer productivity, reliability, and performance.
• Design efficient traversal of the user content graph.
• Build systems to synchronize user content for offline use.
• Scale the permission model for large customers with complex content.

Requirements

• Experience using typed languages such as TypeScript or Flow for code migrations.
• Experience designing data-modeling paradigms such as an ORM, sync engine, or query language.
• Understanding of how fundamental abstractions scale within large codebases.
• Strong problem-solving, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
• Pragmatic judgment balancing technical quality, delivery speed, and business impact.
• Willingness to learn new technologies and evaluate tradeoffs without being tied to one technology.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of large-scale abstractions such as Meta's TAO or Google's Zanzibar.
• Interests outside technology, including art, history, or social sciences.
