Senior Engineer (Silicon Solar Cells)

Location: Freiburg, Germany; onsite work at hirify.global GmbH locations including Neuer Messplatz and TDK Micronas.

hirify.global develops and industrializes a gas-to-wafer manufacturing platform for engineered silicon wafers used in high-performance solar applications.

What you will do

• Analyze solar-cell performance using semiconductor device physics, modelling, characterization data, and targeted experiments.
• Develop engineered silicon wafer concepts and assess how wafer properties affect device performance.
• Build physics-based models linking wafer design, process conditions, and solar-cell performance.
• Design experiments, analyze results, and identify root causes of performance-limiting mechanisms.
• Translate technical findings into manufacturable wafer, process, and device improvements.
• Collaborate with process, equipment, manufacturing, customer, research, and technical partner teams to evaluate industrial feasibility and validate concepts.

Requirements

• Advanced degree in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or a related field.
• At least 5 years of industrial R&D experience in silicon solar cells, semiconductor devices, or a comparable semiconductor technology area.
• Strong understanding of semiconductor device physics and crystalline-silicon solar-cell technologies.
• Hands-on experience with HJT/SHJ, TOPCon, PERC, or comparable high-efficiency solar-cell architectures.
• Experience combining modelling, experimentation, electrical characterization, and data analysis to solve complex engineering challenges.
• Strong cross-functional leadership and communication skills, including the ability to work with senior customer engineers, scientists, and technical leadership without direct reporting authority.
