Senior Expert Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)

Location: Remote with more than 50% remote work; locations in Germany and the Netherlands

What you will do

• Own and continuously develop system-level requirements for Battery Energy Storage Systems.
• Build and refine system-level test specifications for BESS.
• Integrate BESS power units into hybrid control power plants across the full system functionality.
• Lead qualification with Model-in-the-Loop and Hardware-in-the-Loop methods through product development and series optimization.
• Provide technical direction to external BESS suppliers and align them with system requirements and project goals.
• Scout emerging BESS technologies and evaluate their potential for future integration.

Requirements

• Master’s degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a comparable field.
• In-depth experience with industrial BESS systems and/or power converters.
• Knowledge of requirements engineering, test specification development, and the V-model, including verification and validation.
• Confident use of model-based development tools such as Matlab/Simulink; System Composer is beneficial.
• Systems thinking, structured decision-making, modularization skills, and lateral leadership experience.
• Strong written and spoken English communication skills required.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of grid-following, grid-supporting, or grid-forming functionalities.
• Experience with System Composer.
