People Operations Generalist (AI)

Location: Hybrid role based in San Francisco, California

Salary: $275,000–$325,000 USD annual salary, depending on background, skills, and experience.

An early-stage AI company building frontier models, model-customization tools, and interfaces for human-AI communication.

What you will do

• Own the employee onboarding lifecycle from offer acceptance through new-hire training completion.
• Design and manage employment compliance systems covering I-9 verification, eligibility documentation, background checks, training, and federal and state requirements.
• Coordinate immigration case management with outside counsel across H-1B, O-1A, EB-1A, PERM, CPT/OPT, and other visa types, including RFE responses and policy monitoring.
• Build onboarding curricula, manager training, coaching engagements, feedback loops, documentation, dashboards, and self-service resources.
• Evaluate and maintain HRIS, payroll, and adjacent systems, including platform migrations and integrations.
• Administer benefits enrollment and partner with finance, legal, IT, hiring managers, brokers, and vendors to support organizational growth.

Requirements

• Experience in HR operations, people operations, or a related field.
• Strong knowledge of employment compliance, including I-9 requirements, federal and state regulations, and recordkeeping.
• Experience supporting immigration processes with outside counsel.
• Hands-on experience with HRIS platforms such as Rippling, Workday, or SequoiaOne, with the ability to evaluate new tools.
• Strong judgment, discretion, attention to detail, written communication, and ability to operate in ambiguity.
• Ability to work in a hybrid role based in San Francisco, California.

• Experience at a high-growth technology or AI company.

• Experience building onboarding programs or improving employee experience touchpoints.
• Experience with international employment, employer-of-record arrangements, or cross-border hiring.
