Image Analysis Engineer (AI)

Salary: $185,000–$225,000 per year plus equity

What you will do

• Build and maintain a shared image-analysis core that converts image series into reliable measurements.
• Develop image-based methods to locate wells and match brain-imaging planes for repeatable probe positioning.
• Create workflows for object and peak detection, background subtraction, drift correction, and response-time measurement.
• Develop and validate registration methods for reconstructed image series and for aligning ultrasound images with MRI and other anatomical references.
• Define accuracy, repeatability, and failure criteria with scientists, then validate methods using reference measurements, controls, and regression tests.
• Maintain documented Python tools, integrate them with acquisition and reconstruction workflows, and optimize runtime and memory use for large image datasets.

Requirements

• Experience developing or substantially improving quantitative image-analysis workflows used by others.
• Strong image-processing and spatial-reasoning skills, including detection and image registration.
• Sound numerical and signal-processing judgment regarding sampling, filtering, and correction.
• Strong scientific Python skills and experience maintaining tested, documented software.
• Practical understanding of runtime and memory constraints in image-analysis workflows.
• Ability to turn ambiguous scientific requests into useful workflows and report uncertainty, limitations, and failures clearly.

Nice to have

• Experience with multimodal image registration, especially alignment to MRI.
• Experience with ultrasound, microscopy, scientific imaging, or image-guided experimental automation.
• Experience with GPU or distributed image processing and scientist-facing visualization tools.
• Experience developing and evaluating learned image-analysis methods or using AI tools to optimize scientific software and processing pipelines.
• Experience turning scientific Python prototypes into production-quality software, including build systems such as Bazel.
